Key points of reducer installation

The reducer is a common power transmission mechanism, which is used in various mechanical transmission systems. The installation and use of the reducer is directly related to the operation effect of the reducer. If you install the reducer in violation of regulations, it will cause damage to the reducer and cause unnecessary losses to the enterprise. Therefore, the correct installation, use and maintenance of the reducer is an important part of ensuring the normal operation of mechanical equipment. In this article, we mainly talk about the installation points of the reducer.

The installation of the reducer must be rigidly fixed on a solid horizontal or vertical foundation and well leveled. It must be ensured that the coaxiality of the prime mover, coupling, reducer and actuator is consistent and the rotation is balanced to avoid damage caused by additional stress on the input, output shaft and bearings of the equipment due to running deflection. Good alignment can extend service life and achieve ideal transmission efficiency.

When installing the transmission part on the output shaft, it is not allowed to hit with a hammer. Usually, the assembly fixture and the inner thread of the shaft end are used to press the transmission parts with bolts, otherwise it may cause damage to the internal parts of the reducer. It is best not to use rigid fixed couplings, because improper installation of this type of coupling will cause unnecessary external loads, resulting in premature bearing deformation or even damage, and even breaking the output shaft in severe cases.

Make sure that the reducer is firmly installed on a stable and level foundation or base. If the installation foundation is not reliable, the reducer will generate vibration and noise during operation, and cause damage to the bearings and gears. When the transmission coupling has protrusions or is driven by gears or sprockets, consideration should be given to installing protective devices. When the output bearing is subjected to a large radial load, a larger type of reducer that meets the radial load should be selected. Install the reducer as specified to ensure easy access to the oil level, air bleed and oil drain plugs. After installation, the accuracy of the installation position should be comprehensively checked in order, the reliability of the fastening of the fasteners should be flexibly rotated after installation.

Please select the type of lubricating oil correctly and confirm the its adding volume. The lubricating oil should choose the recommended value of the reducer, or use the oil that is completely equivalent to the recommended oil, and the volume of oil should be accurate. In splash-lubricated gear units, the correct oil filling level is particularly important when the load is close to thermal power. In some cases, just because 15% more oil is added, the operating temperature may rise to 15-20°C above the normal temperature, which will reduce the lubricating ability of the oil and cause serious damage to the reducer. When the oil level is lower than the oil level indicated, the gears may not get oil, making splash lubrication impossible. Generally, in the manufacturer’s catalog, there is a description of the recommended lubricating oil type and volume of oil for each reducer. Before operation, the user needs to remove the screw plug of the vent hole and replace the vent plug. According to different installation positions, open the oil level plug screw and check the height of the oil level line. After determining the type of lubricating oil and the amount of refueling, refuel from the oil level plug. After that, please do running test without any load for no less than 2 hours. The operation should be stable, and there should be no shock, vibration, noise and oil leakage. If any fault is found, stop using it and check the cause, then eliminate the fault in time. After a period of time, the oil level should be checked again, and the reducer casing should be checked for oil traces to prevent possible casing leakage. If the ambient temperature is too high or too low, the lubricating oil resistant to low temperature or high temperature should be replaced.
